11 15 15 morning call

Nothing to report from yesterday, I'll jump straight to the buoys at 7am.

NW
9.7ft @ 10s from 96° (E)
4.1ft @ 4s from 102° (ESE)

Hanalei
7ft @ 9s from 67° (ENE)
4.6ft @ 13s from 359° (N)
3.5ft @ 8s from 66° (ENE)

Waimea
5.6ft @ 8s from 43° (NE)
2.7ft @ 5s from 34° (NE)
2.7ft @ 13s from 336° (NNW)
0.4ft @ 20s from 20° (NNE)

Pauwela
7.1ft @ 10s from 79° (ENE)
5.7ft @ 8s from 62° (ENE)
3.4ft @ 12s from 30° (NNE)

No northerly energy at the NW buoy, but 4.6ft @ 13s from 359° (N) at Hanalei, 2.7ft @ 13s from 336° (NNW) at Waimea and 3.4ft @ 12s from 30° (NNE) at Pauwela.
I believe this energy is coming from that fetch I circled on the weather map of the 12th below.
I don't really know how to explain why the direction is so different at the three different buoys.
There should be no refraction induced by the islands considering the direction of the original swell.

The Haleiwa webcam is down, so below is the Laniakea one (you need a Surfline subscription for it, I believe) and it does show some waves that look actually fun. But not enough to get the contest under way in Oahu.

Today's wind map shows that fetch NW of us that did not move east much at all and is now shooting straight south. Good for the Marshall's not for Hawaii. Not yet at least. NW swell still forecasted for Wednesday, that fetch better start stirring up some waters in the right direction tomorrow.
Nice fetch for Fiji in the Tasman sea, we'll get very little energy from that.
And another strong low pressure (958mbar) in a good position for us, but look how compact and small the fetch is. In other words, today not energy generated in the whole pacific ocean towards us.
Other than the usual windswell of course, that remains elevated at the Pauwela buoy and it's your best bet for a surf.

Let's not forget about the south shore, below the Barbers buoy reading
3.3ft @ 7s from 128° (ESE)
2.4ft @ 5s from 124° (ESE)
2ft @ 12s from 189° (S)
0.9ft @ 20s from 190° (S)

I like that foot at 20s, which will probably make for very inconsistentt knee to waist high sets, but there's also 2f 12s, so... as usual, check the lahaina webcam before going.

MC2km map at noon shows a lot of wind, but not quite as strong as the past days and coming from a little more easterly direction. Gonna be a gusty day.
