Tuesday 1 2 18 morning call

The massive thanks of the day go to blog reader Jaecey for his donation.

Just an early morning longboard session for me yesterday. Hookipa looked pretty good at sunset, but still too windy for my taste.

The windsurfers hit the water in the afternoon, this photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery shows that the swell picked up quite a bit compared to the early morning size.

4-5am significant buoy readings
South shore

W
4.4ft @ 13s from 275° (W)

SW
4ft @ 13s from 294° (WNW)

No indication of southerly energy at the buoys. The surfline forecast calls for 1.2f 11s. There were waves in Kihei yesterday and with those readings at the W and SW buoys there should be also today.

North shore
NW101
5.2ft @ 15s from 327° (NW)
2.9ft @ 13s from 303° (WNW)
2.4ft @ 10s from 296° (WNW)

Waimea
3.8ft @ 13s from 309° (WNW)

Pauwela
3.9ft @ 8s from 53° (ENE)
3.1ft @ 6s from 66° (ENE)
3.1ft @ 12s from 317° (NW)

Similar readings to yesterday with one noticeable difference of that 5f 15s from 327 reading at the NW buoy. That energy is just now hitting it, so it will take 17 hours to get here. The related increase should happen locally only at sunset. Surfline shows the existing swell slightly increasing throughout all day though. Stay tuned for an Hookipa beach report around 7am or a little after that. There will be waves, what will count the most will be the wind which is blowing 9mph at 6.30am.

Wind map at noon shows easterly trades.

North Pacific shows again a new WNW fetch and a tiny windswell one.

Nothing on offer in the South Pacific.

Morning sky.
